Non-Surgical Techniques

For more than 35 years, the board certified orthopedic surgeons at The Indiana Hand Center have specialized in complete care for the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand. Our goal is to develop a personalized treatment plan that will relieve pain, reduce the risk of re-injury, and help you return to your daily activities as quickly as possible. While some injuries and conditions of the upper extremity may require surgery, others can often be treated conservatively, utilizing a combination of medication, splinting and/or therapy. Our surgeons will diagnose and evaluate your injury or condition to determine the type of treatment that is most appropriate for you.

The Indiana Hand Center operates the largest therapy facility in the country focused on rehabilitation of the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand. It has earned local, national and international recognition for its cutting-edge developments, commitment to teaching and education, clinical research and contributions to peer-reviewed literature. Our highly skilled, certified occupational therapists have extensive training and expertise enabling them to design individualized therapy plans to help our patients restore function.

Our expertise in non-surgical treatment of the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand includes:

  • Patient evaluation
  • Sprains, strains and some fractures
  • Pain management programs
  • Custom-designed and fabricated splints
  • Individualized strength-building, flexibility/range of motion programs
  • Wound care
  • Scar management and edema control
  • Patient education programs
  • Individualized programs incorporating assistive devices
  • Individualized computer workstation ergonomic evaluations
  • Injury prevention programs
