HAND SURGEONS NEUROLOGY |
James B. Steichen, M.D., Emeritus
Dr. Steichen has been certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and has also passed the examination for the Certificate of Added Qualification in Surgery of the Hand. He specializes in surgery of the hand and upper extremity with particular interest in microvascular surgical reconstruction, nerve compression disorders and athritis. He is active in many medical organizations, including being President of the International Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery, President of the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery, and a Vice President of the Pan Pacific Surgical Association. He has served on the Executive Council of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and has been active in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Orthpaedic Association. Dr. Steichen is a Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Indiana University and an Associate Professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Kentucky. He has been the Surgeon-In-Chief for St.Vincent Hospitals and the Chairman of the Department of Hand Surgery of St. Vincent Hospitals. Dr. Steichen has lectured at numerous national and international meetings and has given over 450 presentations. He has published 65 book chapters and scientific articles. He has served on the editorial board of The Journal of Reconstructive Microsurgery, Microsurgery, and the European Medical Bibliography of Hand Surgery. He has been awarded honorary or corresponding memberships in 12 international hand and microvascular surgical societies. Dr. Steichen is actively involved in community affairs. He was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and is a trustee for the Indianapolis Museum of Art. He is a past President of the Board of Directors of the American Pianists Association and a Past President of the Beethoven Foundation, and has served on the board of directors of the Indiana State Medical History Museum. |
